Baby Burro

Glad to see you, a friendly baby burro
A typical character of the west

An interesting wildlife photo postcard printed on textured paper.  The paper and printing gives the image a unique quality.  Such funny captions on these old cards!

Caption this!

An unused color advertisement postcard for Berquist's Wildlife Exhibit.  The back says:
Animals - Fish - Oddities - Rock Collection.
This exhibit is a unique display of Norther Wisconsin's
wild animals.  The big lumberjack is 18 ft. tall and towers
over Paul Bunyan's Museum collections of the old
logging days.  A visit you'll long remember.

I find the lady in the feather headdress most interesting.  It almost looks as though you could go in to the exhibit and never come out.
What's her story?

Scenic View

A beautiful, snowy scene from Rocky Mountain National Park, near Estes Park, Colorado.  The title of this card is "Dream Lake Estes Park."  I love the color in this card and the texture on the paper.

A very serious young man in this vintage black and white photo postcard.
What is his story?

John F. Kennedy

Google tells me that today is the 50th Anniversary of John F. Kennedy's inaugural address.  So, today is a perfect day for the JFK postcard.  President Kennedy was born May 29, 1917 and died by assassination on November 22, 1963.

In addition to the great quote on the card, Kennedy also said:

Change is the law of life.
And those who look only to the past or present
are certain to miss the future.

Something to think about...

Feeling Under the Weather

 Hope you're not feeling ill...

Enjoy this little gem - a sweet vintage get well card.  The paper is textured, the edges are scalloped, and the colors are bright.  A sweet and sappy delight.

Still Snowy?

Is it still snowy where you live?  Take a look at this antique photo postcard.  A small, impish girl on a sled, harnessed to a huge dog.  Take a look at that beastly looking canine!  This is an undated, unused photo postcard.  What year do you think it is?  Notice her button up boots.
Ready for some outdoor sledding?

Snowy Scene

A chilly scene - it's cold here today and snowy in much of the country.  I thought this one was fitting.
The print on the back says:
Axel Eliassons Konstforlag, Stockholm.

Big Fish

These Whoppers Snap at Anything
Part of a genre of outrageously sized things (fruit, animals, vegetables, etc).  These add a little levity to the day.
Don't let Monday bite you in the.........!

A very interesting black and white photo postcard with Penguins, a huge sea lion and an amazed zoo keeper.  (This zoo was open from 1874 - 1914). The back of this card reads:
Carl Hagenbeck's Tierpark, Stellingen-Hamburg
Sudpolar-Panorama:
See-Elefant u. Pinguine

What exactly are they doing?

Another crazy German card, from an ice ballet.  Note the skates and odd costumes.  I think this one and this one and this one came from the same set.

Big Oranges

This unused postcard is a great example of a color advertisemnt card used around the turn of the century.  Dated 1909, the top says "A carload of mammoth navel oranges from ______________________."  This card is published by Edward H. Mitchell, San Francisco.

Happy New Year!

Get out of bed, you sleepy-head
I think it's nearly time;
You went to sleep in Nineteen Nine
And woke in Nineteen ten!
