Christmas Greetings

Merry Christmas!

Christmas Greetings

A beautiful Christmas postcard, with a bright-eyed Santa and lots of holly leaves.

The back of the postcard.

Apparently, the post office was open on Christmas day 1909, notice the December 25 postmark.

You'd better watch out... you'd better not pout...
A bright Christmas illustration.  The postmark is December 23, 1919, in Fulton Ohio.

Remedy

Perhaps the holiday merry-making is getting to you - for all that ails you..use Tarrant's Seltzer Aperient!
What a sweet little illustration on this advertisement.

Holiday Birds

This little greeting is unique - it is a bit longer and narrower than most post cards.  The message is holiday, however the scene seems so fall or spring with the green leaves and little sparrow.  It's a bit puzzling.

Hearty Greetings

With Hearty Greetings
and Best Wishes
for a Merry Christmas

This sweet little, hand colored post card photography gives a floral Christmas greeting.  The back of this card says Printed in Saxony.  It is unused and has no postmark.  I don't know what era, but I am guessing 1910-1920's.  What do you think?
My daughters told me today is the first day of the twelve days of Christmas - so soon!  The holidays really have been sneaking up on me this year!

Christmas Elves

To get you in the holiday mood, the jolly little elves wish you Merry Xmas!
This card would be delightful on your own homemade cards, as a scrapbook embellishment or in a seasonal collage.
The postmark is Fonda NY, Dec 22, 1911.

Dancers in Green

This German card shows five male ice skaters in green gowns.  Are they belly dancer or goddess gowns? The card was probably a black and white photo, hand colored to add the vibrant gowns, flowers and head dress.

This one is similar in nature to this one and this one.  All German cards with crazies on ice skates.  does anyone know the translation for the caption?

Spooning in the Moon

I love this card!  Something about it is so charming - the two balancing on the edge of the sliver of moon, the happy moon face and it's changing expression, the dusting or tickling of the moon's nose, the clumsy man slipping, the woman catching him....so much in these two photos.  So fun.
Project ideas: use in a scrapbook lay out, use in a larger collage with a sweet quotation, use as a greeting card, use your imagination!

This is one serious baby!  Not sure what to make of the outfit and the menacing looking toy clutched in his hand.  What do you think?

Baking Bread

Perhaps these two are baking bread for the holidays...I guess there were no child labor laws in play at the time this old black and white photograph was taken.  There is no postmark or correspondence on the back of this postcard.  If you look closely the big oven on the left says "CHICAGO" at the top - perhaps a Chicago oven company.
What a funny old photo!

(You should be able to click on the photo to see a larger version.  This should work on any of the cards posted on my blog.  If you right click to save an image, please respect and use for personal projects only.  Do not sell.)

Tango Club

Another crazy German card.  Just like the one I posted earlier, all the people are on ice skates.  These six, all women, are in costumes.  Probably originally black and white photograph with hand colored touches with a vibrant pop.

This one would make a great party invitation or be fun in a funky collage.

Poppy

A colorful Poppy greeting...with a melancholy message.

POPPPY - Consolation
"As full blown poppies, overcharged with rain,
Decline the head, and drooping, kiss the plains,
So sinks the youth."

French Postcard

Original, vintage, French postcard back.  I don't read (or speak) French so I don't know what this card says.  (Can anyone translate for me?)  The script is beautiful, and the variation in color makes it a perfect piece of ephemera for scrapbooking, collage or cardmaking.  Click and save for your own use.

Uses for Postcards

Collage using a vintage photo postcard.
The image of the tunnel is cropped from an original card.
You may be wondering what I do with all these postcards.  My goal for all my postcards is to share them with others.  I have so many images which I may not use, but someone else may find them interesting.

You may be wondering what you can do with all these images.  You should be able to click on the image and see it in a larger format.  If you like it, print it or save it for your own personal use. What to do with them?  Here are some ideas:
  • scrap booking
  • homemade greeting cards
  • make a mini book
  • use in collage
  • school projects
  • print and frame
  • frame in a series
  • crop and use an image in your own art
  • print and send as a card
  • use as place cards or name tags
  • make holiday ornaments with the images
  • use in decoupage

Shopping Kitties

In the mood for holiday shopping?  I hope this isn't what I will find at the mall.
I love these sassy cats, shopping with their kittens.  Look at all the detail:  The cat walking the poodle, the mouse running away, the kids mussing the drawers.  This is a beautifully illustrated, vintage postcard from Belgium.

What do you think...
Vintage black and white photo postcard- curious things about this one, the strange looking family in the carriage, that woman on the porch.  And why isn't the camera level?  I don't normally see odd angled photos in early collections. And if you click on the photo to view it large, look a the blurry faced baby on the right.  She is a little scary!

Whatever you think....add a caption.... where are they going, what are they doing? Do all those kids belong to just one woman?

Vintage black and white photo postcard is a pair with yesterday's post.

Nun or Nurse, part 1

This one is interesting.  Is she a nun?  or is she a nurse?

Vintage black and white photo postcard is a pair with tomorrow's postcard.

Watch Out for Ghosts

A funny vintage Halloween wish...on a postcard...

There's a ghost around here
And you better shoo it--
I've got something to do
But I'm scared to do it!

Hurry and join me

I am not sure what this lovely lady is doing or why we should join her.  Notice the lovely creature around her neck.  A nice vintage black and white photo postcard - with a little age-wear.

Big Black Rooster & Little Brown Hen

A saucy little poem...
Says the Big Black Rooster to the lIttle Brown Hen,
"You Haven't Laid and Egg Since the Lord Knows When."
Says the Little Brown Hen to the Big Black Rooster
"You Don't Come Around as Oftern as You 'Us'd ter.'"

Not quite like one of Mother Goose's poems.  Watch out for that flirty hen on this charming illustration.

Another great harvest shot - perfect for fall.  They sure liked their big vegetables!

Are you looking for a Halloween costume idea?
Perhaps one of these crazy costumes will fit the bill.  This is a vintage, hand colored postcard from Germany.  Not sure what the text says.  Can anyone translate?  Not sure what they are doing.  Any ideas?

A little bit country

I love this 50's lady.  Where can I get a hat like that?
Wondering what I do with these old postcards?  Take a look here to see what I did with this 50's cowgirl...  one unique use for old postcards.

I'm nuts about this place

A colorful rendition of a squirrel - makes me think of fall.  Although the squirrels in my neighborhood aren't as cute as this one when they're digging up my garden.

On the flip side

And on the flip side of yesterday's potatoes....

You, too, can order the FREAKS for your very own city!  Great example of and advertising postcard.

More big food...

Just take a look at those potatoes...
I guess they grow them big in Indiana.  A great card!

Happy Fall

Lovely lady, lounging in the pumpkin patch holding her basket of apples.  What could be more natural?  (Again, the 1950's?)  I do love fall, crisp air, beautiful colors, bountiful harvest!

Women in the Kitchen

Why do they look so happy?  Are these ladies from the 50's too?  Perhaps it's just an advertisement - but I love the stove and the tile walls.
Help me think of a caption for these two...

Busy Day

Again with the 50's theme.  I love these ladies, busy, busy, busy.  Why don't I wear such a frilly dress while I do the housework?

Wish you were here...

Greetings from the quintessential 1950's motel.  Don't you love the decor?
