A great vintage photo of a woman feeding hundreds of chickens outside a large hen house...  I don't know that I would want to be standing where she is.  I wonder what she's thinking?  What do you think?

The back of this card is equally interesting:

Mailed to Mr & Mrs. Paule Krause in Wasuasau, WI in 1915.  The card says, (to the best of my ability to read the faded writing):

"My Dears- This is the poultry house about 1/3 of size showing + some poultry  These pictures was (sic) taken in Aug. I think we was (sic) not settled in the house at time yet.  Will write letter later. Lovingly David. (?)

This is a silly card - probably a photo-prop with a hole for the person's head.  It is odd because it looks so disembodied. The signature on the front is hard to read, perhaps "Jill Carroll"?

Here is another faded old photo card....

The ladies on the bench didn't seem to have much detail, until I used the auto correct.  What a difference!  These two are perched on the ends of the bench, certainly to make way for a clear view of the house behind them.

The ladies are certainly enjoying the day in their fancy hats. And look at that estate behind them!  Wow!  What do you think they are talking about?

This is an interesting old photo card.  It seemed so faded, I hesitated posting it onto the blog.

Original photo - faded and forlorn.

But when I used the "auto color correct" the details came through.  I think that the details are so interesting.  They seem to be sitting on some porch steps in front of a door, there's a rug beneath their feet.  She has a bird pattern on her stockings.  He's wearing a large pinkie ring and white socks.

The postcard was used, but there is also writing that says "Mabel + Jim" What's their story?

It is such an interesting card, with writing space on the front, as well as the back.  The back says "POST CARD" but has no other markings.
I think the black and white illustration is so clever.  Take a look close up:

A fabulous, vintage photograph of four men in uniform.  They are quite curious - posed on a bench, one reading a book, one in s suit, all in hats.  Unfortunately, any identifying elements of the original photo folder have been cut from the card on which it's mounted.

Going to the beach...

This is an interesting mis-print vintage photo post card.  The scene is probably a photo set up at a fair or a studio.  I am not sure if the mis print was intentional.  Were they leaving space for another photo?  Or was it a mistake?  Perhaps someone who knows old photos could weigh in here.
The couple looks like the last place they would go would be the beach!  What do you think, what's their story?

This one is so fascinating!  There are 5 adults and one child in this somewhat odd vintage black and white photo postcard.

Three of the ladies are in elaborate hats.  Notice, there is one man in the back.  The child looks a bit off - like maybe her head is about to spin.  The back lit glare of the sun looks like the "ghost" images found in some photos.

This one depicts a lovely arch on campus in this black and white photo postcard.
I love the look of the arch and the ivy.  I love how mysterious and dark the entrance to the arch looks.  It would be a great piece for a collage.  To borrow this image for your own artwork, click on the image for a larger view.  Then right click to save to your computer.  For personal use only, please.

I have a lovely collection of black and white Bryn Mawr photo postcards.

These uncirculated postcards show the beautiful campus - they would be lovely to use in collage or other art projects.

This dark and somewhat damaged vintage photo postcard is still interesting to me.  It's a photo of 5 people standing out in the wind - only one of them is actually looking at the camera.  One of the men has a lawn mower, one of the women has a hose perhaps.  They have odd clothes, what's with that lady's hat?  They are standing in a desolate looking area...

What's their story?

Perhaps five friends plotting a scheme?

Mineature Postcard

This vintage photo postcard is tiny.  It measures at 2"x4".  There is barely enough room to write an address and place a stamp on the back. There is no information about this well dressed couple. 

From the looks of the back of this uncirculated postcard, it was once glued to a photo album.

A vintage, black and white photo post card, used in the 1980's. The typical postcard template is printed on the back of the card. It was probably found at an antique store.  The front is labeled "Margaretta & Edith"  there are no other clues as to who these two are.  What's their story? 

Finding photos like these reminds me of the blog Forgotten Old Photos.  But at their site, they actually find a good number of the people (or their descendants) that are in the pictures.  You can find some amazing stories at that blog.

I, however, am not so persistent.  I just make up quotes for my old photos.

For this one:  Margaretta "I won't tell, if you don't tell."  Edith "Quit pulling my hair, will you?"
